MOSCOW, Jan 19 (PRIME) -- Russian gas pipeline project Nord Stream-2 is facing illegal U.S. pressure, but Moscow continues consistent efforts to finalize the project, president's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.
"We are monitoring the situation with attention and analyzing it in order to continue consistent efforts to finalize the project," Peskov said.
The Nord Stream 2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Germany’s Uniper and Wintershall, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
The U.S. introduced sanctions against the pipeline in December 2019, as a result, Switzerland's Allseas building the pipeline withdrew from the project. The sanctions were extended in January 2021, after that Denmark's DNV GL discontinued works. The U.S. plan to blacklist Fortuna, the vessel building the pipeline on Tuesday.
